Querying in EL with Nonmonotonic Rules

چکیده
A general top-down algorithmization for the WellFounded MKNF Semantics a semantics for combining rules and ontologies was recently defined based on an extension of SLG resolution for Logic Programming with an abstract oracle to the parametric ontology language. Here we provide a concrete oracle with practical usage, namely for EL which is tractable for reasoning tasks like subsumption. We show that the defined oracle remains tractable (wrt. data complexity) so that the combined (query-driven) approach of non-monotonic rules with that oracle is tractable as well.

From EL to Tractable Existential Rules with Complex Role Inclusions
Ontology-based data access consists in using ontologies while querying data. Due to the high complexity of this problem, considering lightweight description logics like EL is especially relevant. Another strand of research is based on existential rules. In this paper, we use this latter formalism in order to cover EL with the same complexity of reasoning while allowing any predicate arity and s...
متن کاملNoHR: Querying EL with Non-monotonic Rules
We present NoHR, a Protégé plug-in that allows the user to take an EL+⊥ ontology, add a set of non-monotonic (logic programming) rules – suitable e.g. to express defaults and exceptions – and query the combined knowledge base. Provided the given ontology alone is consistent, the system is capable of dealing with potential inconsistencies between the ontology and the rules, and, after an initial...
متن کاملThe DMCS Solver for Distributed Nonmonotonic Multi-Context Systems
The DMCS system is an implementation of the equilibrium semantics for heterogeneous and nonmonotonic multi-context systems (MCS) [3], which feature contexts with heterogeneous and possibly nonmonotonic logics. Each context in an MCS comprises of two parts: a local knowledge base and a set of bridge rules that can access the beliefs of other contexts and add new information to the knowledge base...
متن کاملA Query Tool for EL with Non-monotonic Rules
We present the Protégé plug-in NoHR that allows the user to take an EL+⊥ ontology, add a set of non-monotonic (logic programming) rules – suitable e.g. to express defaults and exceptions – and query the combined knowledge base. Our approach uses the well-founded semantics for MKNF knowledge bases as underlying formalism, so no restriction other than DL-safety is imposed on the rules that can be...
متن کاملNonmonotonic Reasoning and Multiple Belief Revision
The aim of the present paper is to reveal the interrelation between general patterns of nonmonotonic reasoning and multiple belief revision. For this purpose we de ne a nonmonotonic inference frame in which individual inference rules have been proposed in the literature but their combination as a system has not been investigated. It is shown that such a system is so strong that almost all the r...
